One Pattern, Two Creations

As sewers and quilters we have all the colours of the rainbow at our fingertips. For some it is a blessing but for a good percentage of us it is a challenge at the same time. Using colour is a bit about what you know and a heaps about what you love. It’s the old saying “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. Literally is means that the perception of Beauty is subjective – what one person likes or loves another may not. In this post we’ll explore two colour schemes for the same projects.

In September 2018 Emily Dennis and Tuva Publishing released Modern Quilts Block by Block. This publication included 12 modern quilt projects which in this post we will be highlighting one of these patterns - Mini Medallion – and present it in two colourways.

Mini Medallion is a geometric mini quilt or table topper using prints and accent fabrics. Completed project measures 24 inch by 24 inch thus allowing you to use a piece of 100% patchwork fabric as your backing. Quality patchwork fabric comes as 42inch WOF.

Creation A — Pastel Print

In this pastel print version we used “Woodland Tea Time” by Lucie Crovatto for Studio E Fabrics with the white being from our stash. The backing is “Home Grown” by Nancy Halvorsen for Benartex, LLC.

Creation B — Solid Print

In the solid print creation we used ”Colorworks Premium Solid” by Northcott Studio with the backing being from “Bugs Galore!” by The Blank Quilting Corp 2019.

Material Requirements

Print or Solids Fabric (Outer Layer): 1 Fat Quarter

Accent Fabric (Inner Layer): 1 Fat Quarter

Accent Fabric (Diamonds): 10 inch square

White Fabric: 1 Fat Quarter

Binding Fabric: ¼ yard

Simply Sewing on Saturdays
By John & Marie 14 Apr, 2023
Expressions of interest are invited from fellow sewing enthusiasts to join our 2023 Simply Sewing on Saturdays small group of like-minded people enthusiastic to share our patchwork and quilting journeys. We gather fortnightly from 9am to 12noon with a scrumptious morning tea enjoyed in between. You may like patchwork, applique, embroidery, or combining a range of techniques in your project; with perhaps the joy of one or more quilting styles to finish your creation. Many believe quilting needs to be a big, and expensive, activity with the results destined only for show of some kind. Simply Sewing on Saturdays enables members to be part of a quilting journey making project, big or small eg. from mug mats, place mats, table centres, bags/caddies, wall hangings, and everything in between; plus, quilts from cot to whatever size you wish. RSC will have patterns and kits available. Members can also bring a quality project of their own. In essence, the main aim is to create projects using quality materials in a supportive environment where sharing with others offers you the best in your patchwork and quilting journey. To express your interest please click on the "Get in touch" button above to tell us a little about yourself and what you would like to contribute. Note: Beginners (Male &/or Female) welcome to apply. Places are limited so we look forward to hearing from you soon. S-e-w until next time, from all the team, keep well and stay safe!
